Dr. Bilal Zakariah Khan

Professor of Cardiology


Cardiology Department was established in early 1960’s and since it has trained large number of cardiologists who are serving in Pakistan and abroad. It was the first academic Department of Cardiology in the country to have invasive cardiology setup in 1983. New Cardiac catheterization was started in October 2004. Total No. beds 46, coronary care Unit 20 beds, Cardiology Department is located in the old building near AVH and radiology department.

Services / Diagnostic Facilities

Angiogrpahy, Percutaneous, Coronary Interventions, Percutaneous Transmitral Commissurotomies, Peripheral Arteriography, permanent pacemaker implantation. The invasive section comprise of two Echocardiography machines dedicated for stress tests system, Holter monitoring system and Gamma Camera. It offers transthoracic and transaesophageal Echocardiography including stress echoes, eletrocardiographic stress testing and Holter monitoring facilities. The Nuclear cardiology section offers stress myocardial perfusion studies and gated studies for a functional assessment.

7. Factors influencing the clinical and echocardiography results in the short and medium term following percutenous transmitral commissortomy.
8. Comparative study of distribution of Coronary artery disease in young insulin dependent diabetics and maturity onset diabetics.
