unit.
The
unit handles medical emergency patients 36 hours
a week and offers outpatient services twice
a week.
The
ward has 44 beds extendable up to 65. The ward
offers multiple services, most of which are
run on self help basis as follows:
1.
Laboratory providing routine investigations
for admitted patients
2.
Endoscopy section providing facilities for:
a. Bronchoscopy
b. Gastroscopy
c. Colonoscopy
d. Sigmoidoscopy
e. ERCP
Being
the official unit for endoscopy, these services
are available for all patients coming to Mayo
Hospital on minimal charges.
3.
Ultrasonography & echocardiography are available
for admitted patients of this ward free of cost.
4.
Hemodialysis unit hosts four hemodialysis machines
and shares the major part of the load on Mayo
Hospital. These services are provided free of
cost with the support of Hope Kidney Foundation.
5.
Diabetic Clinic is a prestigious outpatient
outlet of our department and deals with major
bulk of diabetic patients visiting Mayo Hospital.
6.
Hypertension clinic is also run by our department
for the benefit of hypertensive patients visiting
Mayo Hospital, Lahore.
The
research and academic setup of this ward is
well reputed. We host our own LAN (local area
network) with internet facility. All possible
services are available related to data collection
and interpretation. Out doctors are well versed
with computers and make maximum use of the available
services.
We
are one of the few departments who have a fully
equipped class room with all possible teaching
aids including multimedia projector, overhead
projector and slide projector. Our library/reading
room hosts access to maximum number of books
and review articles on computer and internet.
East
Medical Ward contributes to postgraduate education
directly by organizing multiple intensive courses
on yearly basis e.g. Annual Course on Diabetes
