BRIEF HISTORY & INTRODUCTION

Idea of king Edward Medical College was put forth in 1850 but admission started in 1860. Since then till late fifties no hostel for girls was present. Girls’ hostel was constructed in May 19, 1958. This old block building has capacity of 36 rooms. Out of these 30 are biseaters and 06 are dome rooms having capacity of 84 girls. In 1970, a new block was constructed having two wings. One on the right side and the other on left side. The right sided block has 32 cubical rooms having capacity of 32 girls. Left sided block have 33 biseters and 01 dome room, having capacity of 70 girls.

Because of open merit more than 60% girls students are admitted and many accommodative difficulties have to be faced by the students. Hence due to untiring efforts of Prof. Dr. Mumtaz Hassan, Vice Chancellor of King Edward Medical University and Chief Warden Girls hostel, Prof. Dr. Atiya Khalid, foundation stone of another new building was laid down by the Honorable Chief Minister of the Punjab on May 19, 2004. This building was completed on January 01, 2006. It has 16 biseaters and 18 dome rooms having a capacity of 120 students. There is one mess for old and new blocks, one for new building & one canteen for hostilities in hostel. At present more than 600 girls are residing in the hostels. 37 employees are working under chief warden Prof. Dr. Atiya Khlid.

Following eminent professors of the King Edward Medical College remained as warden of the girls’ hostel.

1. Dr. Qudsia Qureshi (Associate Professor of Anesthesia) 1980 – 1982

2. Dr. Bilquees Jamal Zafar (Professor of Pharmacology) 1982 – 1988

3. Dr. Nusrat Waqar (Professor of Physiology) 1988 – 1989

4. Dr. Yasmeen Imtiaz (Associate Professor of Physiology) 1989 – 1994

5. Dr. Munawar Zaheen (Professor of Gynecology) 1994 – 1997
And now as Chief Warden

6. Dr. Atiya Khalid (Professor of Anatomy & Histology) 1997 – onward

Prof. Dr. Atiya Khalid, the chief warden girls’ hostel, worked day and night for the betterment of hostel. It is because of her efforts that following facilities are provided to hostilities.

1. Two study rooms with air conditioners have been established.

2. TV is provided for entertainment of students in mess and canteen.

3. In each wing of hostel Water Coolers with Filters have been installed.

4. Similarly, Geysers are provided in each wing of hostel.

5. New furniture and carpets in common rooms and study rooms are provided.

6. Air coolers are installed in mess and common rooms.

7. One new tubes well have been installed.

8. In all the lawns of the hostel shades with fans and tube lights are provided for the guests of hostilities.

ACTIVITIES

1. Daily Dars-e- Quran.

2. Every year hostel function is arranged by the students in which prominent personalities are invited as guest of honors and chief guest.

3. Farewell party is arranged for the final year students by the chief warden.
