Brief History and Introduction

Lady Aitchison Hospital, Lahore was established in1987 to cater the needs of females patients regarding Gynaceological and obstetrical problems. The foundation stone o the building was laid down by the lady Aitchison on 15th February 1887. in those days it was the only Gynae and obst. Hospital the public sector available the city of Lahore. The total area of hospital is31 Canal and 147 Sq feet. The old building of the hospital was builtfor100beds. Due to considerable increase in population during the last 100years. It was felt that the old building was not sufficient to cope with the increased load of patients. Moreoverthe old building was in dilapidated condition so it was decided to reconstruct modern and beautiful building with more facilities for 200 patients by demolishing the old building. Scheme was approved in 1989 for 560.81 lacs.

The present building is actually part of above mentioned ADP scheme. This part of building i.e. OPD building i.e. OPD building was handed over by the contractor in 1992. The rest of the buildings ie.. 200 bedded hospital building & internee hostel were left incomplete by the contractor.

After many years of constant struggle the scheme was revised and approved Construction of 2000 bedded building & internee hostel isn under construction now. Previously the hospital was working under the administrative control of Director General Health Services Punjab, Lahore. In 1999 this hospital was affiliated with King Edward Medical College, Lahore and was declared a teaching hospital.

SERVICES PROVIDED

• This hospital provides tertiary care Curative and preventive services to all the Gynaecology and obstetrical cases. About 50000 patients attend OPD of this hospital every year. It provides indoor facility to about 10000 patients. 3000 to 4000 major and minor surgeries are carried out every year. About 4000 to 5000 babies are delivered here every year. The facilities provided to the patients in this hospital are, Radiology Department, Dental Department, blood bank and laboratory. The neonatology unit takes care of new born babies. EPI services are also provided here to new born babies.

Financial help to poor and needy patients is arranged through Social Welfare Department from Zakat and Bat-Ul-Mall. Family planning Centre situated in this hospital provides all the family planning services to the needy patients free of cost including surgical proceures etc.
This hospital imparts training to the under graduate and post graduate medical students. The training experiences provided by this hospital is recognized by the College of physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan. Moreover this hospital provides training to pupil mid wives, nurse mid wives and LHV’s. The passing percentage of midwifery School of this hospital is always 100%.
