Brief History & Introduction

Department is located in main building of Mayo Hospital, at first floor, consisting of 1 male and 1 female ward, each of which divided into highly dependency unit and general unit. Male ward consist of 35 beds and female ward consist of 33 beds. Both wards are equipped with ventilators, pulseoxymeters, ECG machine and other necessary equipments used for intensive care. Department also developed air conditioned burn unit in both male & female wards. Department has a class room and a library well equipped with latest books and medical journals providing the study facilities for under and postgraduate trainees.

SERVICES

• Responsibility for publication of Annals of King Edward Medical College, Lahore which is the official journal of King Edward medical College and is a recognized periodical by the Pakistan medical & Dental Council and is indexed by WHO index Medical and College of Physicians & Surgeons of Pakistan med Lip Indexing service.
• Construction of 6 Stories State of the Art Surgical tower in the premises of Mayo Hospital to provide the latest facilities and growing demands of patients. It will have the facility of helipad and air ambulance. This project is coordinated and headed by Prof. Abdul Majeed Chaudhry.
• Availability of IT facilities on latest computer and direct internet access for all staff members. We also have access to the electronic library of the University of Maastricht, Holland.
• We have uptdate library in the unit containing latest available journals.
• We have separate High Dependency Unit for both male and female wards.
• We have built airconditioned burn units in both male and female wards.
• Our unit provided voluntary participation in the relief work of earthquake stricken disaster areas of northern Pakistan and this participation is still going on todate. We are co-holding an international conference on “Disaster” prevention mitigation of damage on 31st of march and 1st of April 2006 in Lahore.

Our unit has trained consultant in laparoscopy, vascular and other surgical procedures who are performing state of the art surgery and training their innumberable juniors.
