Brief
History & Introduction
The
Radiology Department is as old as the application
of X-rays to the diagnosis of ailments in the
sub-continent of India. The nucleus of the department
of radiology was established with the installation
of X-ray machine in the first decade of 20th century.
In 1939 more equipment was added and the main
building of X-ray department consisting of two
rooms was constructed. These two rooms still form
a part of the present department. In 1947 this
was all which was inherited. Subsequently the
equipment was changed by a more modern version
and the building also expanded.
Since
late 70’s the radiology department has been
given a professorial chair. The first professor
to head the department was Professor Rasheed Ahmed
Mian. With his efforts Professor R.A. Mian succeeded
in expanding the department and creating posts
of associate and assistant Professor along with
a angioradiologist.
The
department subsequently has been divided into
Main section, Emergency section, and Out Patient
section. Radiological Services are provided to
all clinical department. Facilities in Main section
included conventional radiography, TV fluoroscopy,
Cine radiography, topography, mammography, angiography,
myelography, and ultrasonography. In addition
to basic ultrasonography now the department has
facilities for interventional work. The department
has also acquired a C.T. Scanner and colour doppler
ultrasound units.
